The Laboratory of Food, Drug and Cosmetics (LTMAC) at the University of Brasília is a research laboratory for the development of products and processes in the pharmaceutical, food science and human nutrition fields.

Our mission is to provide personnel qualification, develop innovative products and provide services in the areas of research, production and quality control of medicines, foods and cosmetics.

Our pharmaceutical research aims at developing solid and semi solid formulations for skin, ocular, vaginal, pulmonary, oral and targeted follicular delivery of drugs and cosmetics active ingredients. New technologies include submicroscopic biocompatible systems, such as liposomes lipid and polymeric nanoparticles and energy driven processes as iontophoresis. A specificity of our activity is not only to develop formulations but also to design POC studies for their evaluation.

Food research is focused on development of food products for dietary restrictions, as well as functional food using as ingredients fruit, vegetable, nuts and grains from biodiversity, especially from Brazilian savannah biome. Nutritional and functional evaluations include the study of bioactive compounds, antioxidant activity and vitamins. Other physical and chemical analyses are also performed in association to sensory studies to assess food characteristics and acceptance.
